CBA announces halt to regional bank closures after facing opposition

Chris O'Keefe

CBA has announced to stop Junee’s regional branch closure for the remainder of 2023 while Senate Committee investigates the impact on regional communities.

After the town of around 5000 residents in Junee united together to try and save the last branch in the area by protesting and signing petitions and evidently succeeded in rescuing the execution of the branch.

Local resident and owner of Junee’s Licorice & Chocolate Factory, Rhiannon Druce spoke with Chris O’Keefe about the huge achievement.

“It is a really good day [and] just goes to show a little bit of people power,” Rhiannon said.

Junee Solicitor Michael Commins responded to the news and revealed “this action by the bank has united the town…in terms of getting the people of Junee together”.
