Drivers and animals were rescued after they were trapped for over 15 hours on a bridge flooded at both ends in northern New South Wales.

The bridge, located in Woodburn, south of Lismore, is situated on the banks of the Richmond River, where over 50 residents and horses spent an evening stranded as rising floodwaters swallowed the road.

Locals with boats and rescue crews successfully rescued the residents from the bridge.

Cassie was stuck on the bridge after evacuating her home.

She told Ben Fordham she got on the rescue boat at 3am.
