Elderly driver saved from perilous 8ft drop after car collides with building

A car has collided with an apartment building in Double Bay, injuring the driver.

Paramedics who responded to the scene of the accident on Kiaora Road found the vehicle wedged over a drain and suspended two metres high.

A woman in her 70s was extracted, treated for a knee injury and transported to St Vincent’s Hospital for further assessment.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Giles Buchanan told Jim Wilson the car appeared to become airborne after the driver hit the gutter when emerging from a parking garage.

“She seems to have gotten out of it remarkably well.

“There doesn’t appear to have been a medical cause behind it, just might’ve been a moment’s inattention.”
