Inquiry Into Mobility Scooters

Nationals Senator John ‘Wacka’ Williams wants more safety restrictions.

A Senate committee is set to delve into the issue of mobility scooter safety.

A study by Monash University found 62 people were killed by mobility scooters between 2000 and 2010, and 442 people were hospitalised over two years.

Nationals Senator John ‘Wacka’ Williams is calling for tighter regulations after his wife was seriously injured by a speeding scooter.

“[She had] a total hip replacement after she was thrown across the footpath and landed on the concrete.

“Luckily she didn’t land on her head. Could’ve been a lot worse.

“Basically now, there are no regulations.”
