Calls for e-scooter trial to ‘manage’ illegal rides

John Stanley

There’s a push for the NSW government to consider an e-scooter trial for private use and hire companies in CBD areas.

Former transport minister Andrew Constance previously cancelled a trial due to safety concerns and the littering of rented devices.

But Business Sydney Executive Director Paul Nicolaou says a trial could help iron out issues and regulate their use, with many already riding the scooters illegally.

“At present moment, people are riding these scooters all over the place and if they’re not controlled, then we’re going to have more problems and more people getting hurt.”

“That’s why we’re calling for the trial: it would give us the idea and the plans for how it should be managed.”
