Paramedics are praising bystanders who performed life-saving CPR on a man in Sydney’s north-west this morning.

The 39-year-old man suffered a cardiac arrest while driving his car in Baulkham Hills just after 8am.

Chief Inspector Brian Parsell tells Chris Smith an orthopaedic surgeon on his way to work saw the man in trouble and leapt into action.

When emergency services arrived, the patient was not breathing and had no pulse.

“Fortunately, due to the great efforts of the bystanders, he was in a shockable rhythm,” says Chief Inspector Parsell.

“We were able to deliver a shock using our defibrillator and we got his heart started and he started breathing again.”

The patient was transferred to Westmead Hospital and is currently recovering.
