‘Business as usual’ for ambulance staff amid horrific holiday deaths

21 people have now lost their lives on NSW roads since Operation Safe Arrival began two weeks ago.

Chris Smith speaks with Chief Superintendent for NSW Ambulance Alan Morrison to find out how emergency services are coping with the tragedies grappling this period.

“It’s business as usual for us. We maintain full rosters as we do every single day.”

Mr Morrison says ambulance staff are also aware of the need to sacrifice time with loved ones over Christmas.

“You understand that when everyone is on holidays, that’s the time you need to be around to care for the community.”

The superintendent also highlights the importance of supervising children and urges people to never leave children in cars.

“You cannot leave anybody, especially a child, in a car. Since November 21, we’ve had 81 call outs to kids locked in cars.”
