Life savers want to see better planning in the future to avoid Sydney’s beaches being spoiled by mountains of rubbish.

Locals joined council staff from 5.30am his morning to clear Bronte Beach of thousands of bottles, clothing, broken glass and plastic bags left behind by Christmas Day revellers.

Bronte Surf Live Saving Club president Basil Scaffidi has told James Willis it’s heartbreaking.

The mess at Bronte Beach prompted Waverley Council to install extra police and skip bins on site.

Waverley Council Mayor Paula Masselos told Joe Hildebrand she was devastated after seeing the amount of rubbish left at the beach.
