NSW Liberal leader Mark Speakman resigns
Mark Speakman has quit as the New South Wales Opposition Leader
Speakman has revealed he intends to stay in politics and will endorse Vaucluse MP Kellie Sloan to replace him.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday afternoon, he says several conversations had taken place just hours after he fronted the media, which showed him many in the party wanted change.
“A day is a long time in politics, half a day is a long time in politics, and even a few hours is a long time in politics. This morning the sun was shining, the birds were chirping … and I was on breakfast radio and on TV saying that I would be continuing as Liberal Party Leader at that stage,” he said.
He says Sloane will have his full support and is the best candidate for the leadership position.
