The NRL has made a decision on controversial Newcastle Knights player Caitlin Moran after her offensive post about Queen Elizabeth II.

Full statement below

The National Rugby League (NRL) today issued Newcastle Knights player Caitlin Moran with a Breach Notice alleging a breach of the NRLW Code of Conduct following a social media post published on Friday 9 September 2022.

The Breach Notice proposes a fine equivalent to 25% of her current NRLW contract, wholly suspended, provided she fulfills a number of conditions. The Breach Notice also proposes a one match suspension in the NRL Women’s Premiership Competition. The fine will be suspended for a period of 12 months to be payable immediately should the Code be further breached in that period.

There will be a further requirement that Moran attend such education and training as is recommended by the NRL’s Wellbeing and Education Department, in consultation with the Australian Rugby League Indigenous Council, concerning her responsibilities as a Player and the appropriate use of social media.

Rugby league is an inclusive game and has a proud and strong relationship with many communities. Regardless of any personal views, all players and officials must adhere to the professional standards expected of them and on this occasion, the public comments made by the player have caused damage to the game.

Moran has 5 business days to respond to the Breach Notice.
