World Athletics has voted to exclude transgender athletes from female events.

The ruling applies to elite competition and will be enforced from the start of April.

The Government body says: “We have more than ten years of research of the physical advantages that trans athletes bring to the female category.

“In these circumstances- the Council decided to prioritise fairness and the integrity of female competition before inclusion.”
