WA Premier Mark McGowan has announced that this week will be his final week in politics.

McGowan, who served as the Premier of Western Australia for over six years and held the position of Labor leader for nearly twelve, is stepping down after a career in public service spanning three decades.

Mr McGowan cited the relentless pressure and exhaustion from his role during the COVID-19 pandemic as contributing to his decision.

“I’m extremely tired. In fact, I’m exhausted. I just don’t have the energy or drive to continue in the role as Premier,” Mr McGowan said at a press conference announcing his resignation.
