A man has been shot dead by police on Sydney’s northern beaches.

At about 1.50am this morning officers attended a home on Belinda Place in Newport following reports of a domestic incident.

Ben Fordham has revealed a physical confrontation occurred and officers shot a 39-year-old man dead.

It’s understood the man lunged at police with a knife.

Officers conducted CPR but he could not be revived.

A crime scene has been established and inquiries are underway.
