David Elliott announces he will not run for Deputy Leader
David Elliott has announced on Drive he will not run for Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party.
Following the resignation of Stuart Ayres a new Deputy Liberal Leader is set to be announced tomorrow within the Liberal Party.
A few days ago the NSW Transport Minister David Elliott publicly threw his hat in the ring but that has now changed.
Mr Elliott was planning to run against his rival Matt Kean, to replace Stuart Ayres.
His decision not to, means Mr Kean is likely to be elected unopposed.
Mr Elliott told Jim Wilson after talking with Premier Dominic Perrotett that “it’s not in the best wishes of the party” for him to run for the role.
“I have just been in touch with the Premier today and in accordance with his wishes I don’t think I will be putting my name forward tomorrow,” he said.
“It’s quite clear that we need some healing in the Liberal Party at the moment and Dominic said to me he would prefer not to have a ballot.
“Yes I’m disappointed, yes I have had to eat humble pie, yes I have had to say to the Premier ‘yep you’re the boss’.
“You don’t want to know the words Dom and I use when we have private conversations.”
