A bystander of the horrific terrorist attack in New Zealand has been commended for his bravery.

An Islamic extremist under 24 hour police surveillance stabbed seven people in an Auckland supermarket before he was shot dead by officers on Friday.

Three victims remain in a critical condition.

Amit Nand was one of two shoppers who tried to distract the man during the attack.

Mr Nand told Ben Fordham “my job was to try to take the knife off him”.

“I don’t think he was going to stop.”
