Bike track built by kids under threat from local council killjoys

Local kids have revamped a long-forgotten bike trail in the Mount Gibraltar area, but all it took was one resident complaint to have it shut down.

Tavish McPherson and mates took it upon themselves to revamp the track, but Wingecarribee Shire Council closed it down after just a single resident complaint.

“We basically just put fresh dirt down on the pre-existing trail”, the 14-year-old told Chris O’Keefe. But this was enough to kickstart a council initiative to keep bikes out of the area. The single complaint is believed to have come from a local land care group member.

“The council told the boys the trail can’t be there, and they would take action to remove them”, his father Ian added. Tavish has now launched a petition to save the bike trail, which has received over 2000 signatures.
