‘Biggest broken promise’: Opposition Finance spokeswoman fires up at Labor super cap

Article image for ‘Biggest broken promise’: Opposition Finance spokeswoman fires up at Labor super cap

The CEO of the Self Managed Super Fund Association breaks down why a $3 million super cap is necessary.

Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume told Chris O’Keefe “this was the biggest broken promise yet”.

The Super Fund CEO Peter Burgess argued if they are going to have a cap, this is the “preferred approach”.

“We were concerned that we may see what we call a ‘hard cap’, that’s where you’re forced to take amounts above the threshold,” Peter Burgess said.

He added that this would have been “disastrous” if they hadn’t taken this approach.
