BHP announces closure of NSW coal mine
BHP has confirmed it will close its Mt Arthur coal mine in 2030.
The mine employs around 2,000 people in the Upper Hunter.
The company intends to seek approval to extend Mt Arthur’s life beyond its current approvals, which end in 2026.
The news comes as NSW faces warnings of a power crisis and future blackouts.
