Three teenagers from Tasmania have been selected to represent Australia at the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers in Slovenia.

Vice President of Tasmanian Junior Beekeepers, Aaron Delatorre explained that the competition includes “a range of practical testing in the hives, [and] theoretical testing of knowledge of equipment, diseases and honey-tasting”.

Junior beekeeper, Reuben Wherett, spoke about how he got into beekeeping at age nine, and how he’s progressed his hobby into a business.

“I’ve now got six hives and I sell honey, lip balm and other beeswax products”, he explained.
