Best-selling Australian author Matthew Reilly is back with a new book.

Since releasing his first novel, Contest, in 1996, Matthew has written 15 books, sold 7 million copies in more than 20 different languages.

Matthew is in such high demand these days, he’s releasing a new book every two years, including his latest, The Three Secret Cities.

He speaks with Alan Jones ahead of the launch, explaining just how much work goes into them.

“It takes me about 13 months to write a new book.

“If my publisher had their druthers, they’d have me do one a year. But I just can’t do it inside a year.

“It’s funny, in this age of instant gratification, people quite enjoy the anticipation and the wait.”

He tells Alan his style is to meticulously plan a book in advance, rather than fly by the seat of his pants.

“I’m a plotter. Several months at the start is plotting, plotting, plotting.

“If I’m going to do big twists, I need to know where it’s going.”
