Laughlin and Weatherald talk “best catch ever”

Article image for Laughlin and Weatherald talk “best catch ever”

It’s not every day a result that sees a tean regain top spot on the ladder is relegated to a footnote but then again, Monday’s night match was no ordinary encounter.

Adelaide Strikers defeated Melbourne Renegades to go top of the table but it was the incredible team catch started by Ben Laughlin and eventually completed by Jake Weatherald that stole the show.

Just as Dwayne Bravo looked to have beat the fielder at deep long on, Laughlin launched himself at the ball right on the boundary, catching it  and quickly flinging the ball back where a diving Weatherald took a spectacular catch to finish off the incredible dismissal.

Speaking to Macquarie Cricket after the match, Laughlin said he was initially only worried about completing the catch.

“I was just worried about catching it, then I landed and took a step,” he said.

Jake Weatherald played down his involvement of what many are calling the best catch in BBL history, instead choosing to heap praise on his teammate for his part in the dismissal.

“I was pretty lucky (Laughlin) threw it anywhere near me,” Weatherald said

“It’s all down to Benny, I didn’t really do much.”
