Bedtime stories on the decline: Why only a quarter of Aussie kids are read to

New research has shown that only 25 per cent of Aussie children are read to once a week.

Director of Publishing at Oxford University Press Lee Walker told Deborah Knight it’s important for children to be in a habit of reading before they start school.

Children can excel in spoken language skills and general literacy skills if read to more often.

“It really sets them up for life.”
