HURRICANES WIN

Hobart Hurricanes have won by five runs, keeping their finals hopes alive.

As has been the case all season, the Sixers relative lack of firepower compared to their rivals caused their undoing and have now lost sixth consecutive matches in BBL|07 .

Jordan Silk attempted to up the run rate and looked to drag his team back into the match before mistiming one and holing out for 45. Sam Billings tried to vain to continue Silk’s earlier work, smashing 61 not out, which included two sixes off the final three balls.

The Sixers innings was typified by Dan Hughes, who hit 33 off 35. His slow and steady approach proving unsuccessful as the Hurricanes recorded their third victory.

INNINGS BREAK

A D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade-led Hobart Hurricanes have posted 6/170 off their 20 overs.

Matthew Wade – who was given a lifeline on 20 as Dwarshuis put down a sitter – went on to post 41 (30) before being caught by Billings off the bowling of Jackson Bird.

Sean Abbott was the Sixers’ highlight, taking three wickets to end his spell on 3-27.

D’Arcy Short was good again but fell short of past heroics as his mistimed shot saw his innings end of 42 (36).

Speaking of Bird, he returned from international duty but his first spell of the BBL season delivered mixed results, delivering figures of 1-31 off four overs.

PREVIEW

The first of a BBL Monday double header sees Hobart Hurricanes take on
Sydney Sixers in Tasmania.

Tonight’s matchup will be the Sixers’ sixth of BBL|07, while the
Hurricanes suit up for their fifth match of the tournament so far.

Led by power hitter D’Arcy Short and West Indian seamer Jofra Archer,
the men are purple are in somewhat of a resurgence after winning their
last two matches.

These two sides haven’t met before this season, making the matchup all
the more intriguing. Hobart has shown signs of challenging the top
teams but they must first take care of business tonight, which is a
must-win if they hold out any hope of making finals.

As for the Sixers, their season looks all but over after five winless
games so far but they’ll no doubt be intent on salvaging some pride
before BBL|07 is complete.
