STRIKERS WIN

Adelaide Strikers have won easily on New Year’s Eve, bowling Brisbane Heat out for 91 off less than 17 overs on the way to a 56-run victory.

In front of 46,594 fans at Adelaide Oval, Brisbane Heat were reduced to 3-11 within three overs and never recovered. Bash Brothers Brendon McCullum (15) and Chris Lynn (0) failed with bat and left the Heat’s middle order exposed.

Michael Neser found plenty of joy with the ball, taking 2-7 off two overs. Ben Laughlin also starred, taking three wickets on the way to figures of 3-11 off just 2.2 overs.

INNINGS BREAK

Adelaide Strikers have battled back after a slow start, posting a score of 7/147 after their 20 overs.

Yasir Shah filled the shoes of Shadab Khan superbly, finishing with figures of 2-18 off his four overs. In an innings dominating by spin, Mitch Swepson chipped with 0-22 and looked good despite failing to take a wicket.

Michael Neser top scored for the home team, finishing on 40 not out off 26 balls. South African Colin Ingram (23) was also productive while Alex Carey failed to continue his recent good form, lasting just six balls as he was clean bowled by Lalor for two.

PREVIEW

Fireworks are set to go off around the country to ring in 2018 over the coming hours but before then, there’s guaranteed fireworks on the field as Adelaide Strikers host Chris Lynn and his Brisbane Heat in a New Year’s Eve blockbuster.

Who could forget Travis Head heroics on this day two years ago? His 53-ball century set shockwaves around the cricketing world and confirmed tonight’s fixture as one of the marquee matches during every BBL season.

On the field, both the Strikers and Heat are flying and remain on track to secure a finals spot this season.

Alex Carey made 83 not out during the Strikers’ narrow six-run wicket over the Sixers and looms as a key wicket for the Heat, who’s own power hitter Chris Lynn returned against the Thunder with a nine-ball 25 before being dismissed.

There’s plenty of star power on show tonight with the ball too, with import Rashid Khan (Strikers) making a fantastic start to their his season. Shadab Khan has now left the Heat through international journey but it replaced by fellow Pakistani Yasir Shah, who makes his debut tonight.

It’s all set up to be an explosive night infront of what should be a sold-out Adelaide Oval crowd.
