Recent factual errors and ‘questionable’ conclusions in ABC reporting are under scrutiny from a Senate standing committee.

True crime documentaries about the murder of journalist Juanita Nielsen and the Luna Park Ghost Train tragedy have been found to contain evidence from an unreliable witness and unsubstantiated corruption allegations, respectively.

Asked if the national broadcaster’s standards have slipped, Environment and Communications Committee chair Senator Andrew Bragg told Joe Hildebrand “clearly … they’re not going through all the checks and balances”.

“People who live in the bush know the ABC is very good in the bush.

“I think often the further you are away from Ultimo, the better the ABC is.”

He encouraged listeners to get in touch with him directly to report specific examples of bias and failure to fact-check.
