Australian flag not being flown in local council causes outrage

Article image for Australian flag not being flown in local council causes outrage

On a day where Australian’s are meant to celebrate together as one, the Central Coast council has thought otherwise.

The council simply will not fly the Australian flag in the main streets of Umina, due to it possibly ‘offending’ people.

This decision on a day like today has obviously rubbed people the wrong way.

Matthew Wales, the president of the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce has told Jim Wilson the wrong message has been sent to individuals: “It’s a sad state of affairs”.

“We don’t need to be told by a bunch of bureaucrats why we can’t fly the Australian flag banner.”

Despite pleading with the council to have the banners reinstated the answer has not changed and Mr Wales said, “They just won’t tell us”.
