Australia Day under threat | Latham says ‘there was no invasion’

Article image for Australia Day under threat | Latham says ‘there was no invasion’

With Christmas and New Year out of the way, the next big celebration is Australia Day, but the public holiday is coming under threat.

Mark Latham has launched an ad campaign with Alice Springs Indigenous Counsellor Jacinta Price, which aims to ‘save the date’.

He speaks with Chris Smith on why we shouldn’t be changing the date.

“The left are putting around in the public arena that all Indigenous Australians are against 26 January and Jacinta Price is an example of someone who recognises that by mourning the past, indigenous people aren’t going to solve anything.

“[They] need to look proactively at the future to solve their problems.

“There was no invasion.

“Changing a date isn’t going to change any of those issues.”
