The Energy Minister has defended Australia’s pathway to net zero emissions, with several rogue Nationals MPs still campaigning against the 2050 target.

In response to comments made by Queensland Nationals Senator Matt Canavan, Energy Minister Angus Taylor told Jim Wilson the nation has to “adapt to what its customers want” to remain prosperous.

“The truth is, customer demand for our products that we export from this country is changing.

“The Japanese, the Koreans, they’re making it very clear: we have to adapt.”

However, Mr Taylor stressed fossil fuels such as coal and gas would be around “for a long while yet”.

“This is evolution, not revolution.”
