Australia Post is advising people to send their Christmas gifts off now with major delays experienced across the country.

A photo, sent to Melbourne radio station 3AW, of mountains of parcels at Australia Post’s distribution centre in Victoria, has shocked Aussies.

Licensed Post Office Group Executive Director Angela Cramp told Ben Fordham they’re experiencing an “unprecedented need” and can’t guarantee the delays will be solved before Christmas.

“Australia Post is desperately looking for more staff.

“We’re everyone’s last man standing, private couriers aren’t taking any more business so everyone’s using Australia Post.”
