Aussies could be slugged extra $500 on power bills under Labor plan

Ben Fordham

Federal Energy Minister Angus Taylor claims a Labor government would push up power bills by more than $500 a year over the next decade.

Labor has pledged $20 billion for new electricity transmission projects under its ‘Rewiring the Nation’ plan, claiming it will wipe more than $300 from annual power bills by 2030.

But federal government modelling shows prices would go up around $560 a year if the Opposition wins the election.

Minister Taylor told Ben Fordham the consumers will pay.

“These are projects that are not recommended because right now the cost-benefit does not work for consumers.”
