Aussie pubs and beer drinkers cop record beer tax hike

The price of a pint is tipped to jump to as much as $15  with the federal tax on beer seeing its biggest increase in more than three decades.

The tax is set to increase by four per cent, or $2.50 more per litre.

Buying your own drinks at the bottle shop is no way to avoid the hike either, with taxes on a carton rising to $18.80.

“Now I don’t mind a frothy or two on a hot day but you’ve gotta feel for local venues having to cop the tax hike,” Jim said.

Brewers Association of Australia CEO John Preston told Jim Wilson it happens “rail, hail or shine” twice a year.

“Australia is one of the highest taxing jurisdictions for beer in the world.”
