Aussie cartoonist slammed over Serena Williams caricature

Article image for Aussie cartoonist slammed over Serena Williams caricature

The cartoonist for the Herald Sun newspaper is being condemned for his depiction of tennis legend Serena Williams following her controversial outburst at the US Open this week.

Mark Knight drew an image of Williams jumping on her racket, with a dummy on the floor, alongside a caption of the umpire telling her opponent, “Can’t you just let her win?”.

The cartoon hasn’t gone down well and is being slammed as racist and sexist.

Daily Telegraph cartoonist Warren Brown tells Ben Fordham he can’t work out what the fuss is about.

“It’s a great caricature of Serena Willams,” he says.

“She’s an incredible figure in her own right.

“They’re saying it’s sexist and it’s racist but it’s none of those things.”
