Cameron Smith’s father Des, has reacted to his son winning the British Open.

The Aussie golfer won the British Open overnight in an impressive performance.

The 28-year-old from Brisbane shot 8 birdies in his final round to win by 1 stroke at St Andrew’s in Scotland.

It’s his first major victory.

He joins Peter Thomson, Ken Nagle, Greg Norman and Ian Baker-Finch as the only Aussies to lift the Claret Jug.

Des Smith told Ben Fordham he is incredibly proud of his son for the years of hard work and sacrifice to build his career.

“Right from an early age, he was special.”
