Authorities have increased security in crowded areas, but is enough being done to keep Australians safe?

Former Australian Ambassador to Israel, Dave Sharma, tells Chris Kenny it’s important to keep the community alert but not alarmed.

“The public is mature enough to be levelled with about those sorts of threats and it would help to make sure they’re more alert to suspicious activity.”

Mr Sharma says the increased security measures, such as those seen in Sydney’s CBD on Boxing Day, are important in the current climate.

“Increased security measures at these venues will hopefully deter or defeat a potential terrorist attack.

“The alternative is to start cancelling big events when you think there might be a threat.”
