Animal genomic expert reacts to UK plan to phase out extreme dog features
The United Kingdom will start to phase out extreme features which negatively impact a dog’s quality of life.
Chair of computational biology and animal genomics at the University of Sydney Professor Claire Wade says flat face dogs have difficulty breathing and struggle with exercise and heat.
“I think oftentimes people don’t realise that these are very fashion-driven, the dog-buying public gets fascinated with a particular look, and it’s a supply and demand situation, so if people ask of those dogs, those are what are produced more,” she told Michael McLaren.
