Liberal MP Angus Taylor is calling for Energy Minister Chris Bowen to “pick up the phone” amid warnings major cities will face gas shortages grow.

The Australian Energy Market Operator has told retailers they may be forced to cut supply as prices continue to rise.

Mr Bowen is leaving all options on the table to shorten the rising cost of gas and electricity, including a potential ‘gas trigger’.

Angus Taylor told Deborah Knight the new Energy Minister needs to “pull the trigger” in reaching out to gas companies.

“[Gas companies] want to know that the government is supporting them to get more supply out,” he said.

“He has to pick up the phone it’s that simple, he hasn’t even done it!”
