‘An absolute crime’: The Big Guns say medevac needs to be repealed

The Big Guns agree medevac should be repealed as the government fights to overturn the legislation by the end of the year.

The repeal of the controversial bill lays in the hands of Tasmanian senator Jacqui Lambie who outlined a secret non-negotiable demand.

There are reports she wants the Coalition to accept an offer from New Zealand to take 150 refugees from offshore detention.

Peta Credlin tells Ben Fordham the medevac bill needs to be repealed.

“It is an absolute crime if this bill is not repealed before Christmas because that will then give them two months to get everybody off Nauru and Manus island with this absolute rubbish excuse of medical treatment.”

Former Labor senator Graham Richardson says he has doubts about the legislation.

“I don’t think Labor’s current attitude will last… Albo’s a lot smarter than this and I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that Labor will dump it very soon.

“I think that this medevac thing has been a bit of a rort.

“I’m not certain all of them are desperately ill when they turn up here.”
