Golden Guitar-winning singer-songwriter Amber Lawrence has attributed a resurgence in Australian country music to an unusual source – TikTok.

The musician joined Deborah Knight in the studio to perform new single I’m Coming Home, a heart-wrenching track written in the midst of lockdowns and border closures.

Amber worked on the song with Nashville-based singer from Gunnedah Katrina Burgoyne, who still hasn’t been able to return home.

“She just started crying at the thought of finishing the song with me.”

Australian country music is coming back into vogue and gaining more international recognition, which Amber was grateful to her forebears for.

“Keith Urban’s been the one to open the gateway, but before that we had James Blundell, and of course Slim Dusty.

“Right now at the moment it’s a really hot kind of music in Australia, and TikTok’s been really great for that.

“If you get onto TikTok with country music, you just get into this world and it’s really opening up.”
