AMA encourages fast-tracking of accreditation as health system bows under COVID strain

Despite “surge planning” in the NSW health system, the Australian Medical Association is concerned COVID will continue to push hospitals under increasing strain.

NSW AMA President Dr Danielle McMullen told Jim Wilson up to 1300 healthcare workers are in isolation every day across the state.

The AMA “would be pleased” for the accreditation process to be sped up, to allow overseas qualified medical staff to join the surge capacity.

“The longer we have high rates of COVID and low vaccine rates, the harder it is to provide COVID care and non-COVID care.

“Most urgently, we need people to be following the health advice.”
