Qantas CEO Alan Joyce says the airline had to do what was necessary to survive during the pandemic.

A number of Qantas employees were let go during the pandemic.

Mr Joyce told Ben Fordham he had a responsibility to keep the national airline afloat.

“Friends that I’ve known for 20 years I had in my office and I was in tears having to make them redundant.

“But we had to do it to survive.”
