Federal Agriculture Minister Murray Watt has confirmed the Defence Force is not on standby in the event of a foot and mouth outbreak.

Additional biosecurity measures, including sanitation mats, have been rolled out at our border to stop foot and mouth from entering Australia.

British MP Neil Hudson has warned Australia should have the army on standby.

Minister Watt told Ben Fordham there are plans in place that do not include the ADF.

“We don’t believe it’s necessary to have the ADF involved if we do have an outbreak.

“Certainly, if the view is that we need the Defence Force involved then we would activate them very quickly.”
