ABC under fire for show dedicated to ‘oppressive’ Muslim garment

Article image for ABC under fire for show dedicated to ‘oppressive’ Muslim garment

The ABC is feeling the heat over their new show dedicated to discussing Muslim headscarves.

The woman hosting the program is none other than controversial Muslim commentator Yassmin Abdel-Magied, which has sparked further criticism.

Senator Eric Abetz tells Ben Fordham he can’t believe the national broadcaster is airing the program.

“We should not be promoting this oppressive item.

“Hundreds of thousands of women in Iran are facing arrest, imprisonment… because they want to shed this oppressive garment.

“The ABC should be using its resources to celebrate and support these women in Iran rather than promoting Ms Magied again.

“No matter how colourful you might make it, it simply is an oppressive garment that hundreds of thousands of women… are trying to shake.

“I am just gobsmacked at the ABC.”
