‘A recipe for disaster’: RTBU warns of bus and driver shortages amid rail closures

The impending 12-month shutdown of one of Sydney’s busiest train lines, the T3 between Bankstown and Sydenham, is set to cause major disruptions for commuters.

The Rail, Tram, and Bus Union (RTBU) Tram and Bus Divisional Secretary, David Babineau, spoke to Neil Breen about the mounting concern over driver shortages for replacement services.

Further complicating the situation is the privatisation of bus services, which Babineau pointed out has exacerbated the shortage of dedicated drivers.
