‘A real viable alternative’: Is it time to ditch and switch banks?

Deborah Knight

The CEO of Heritage Bank, Peter Locke is on the board of the Customer Owned Banking Association and has given advice to unsatisfied customers of big banks.

Following the reports of a number of big banks closing their branches in Regional towns, not everyone is satisfied with online banking.

Heritage Bank CEO Peter Locke agrees there is “definitely a move [for] online banking and we have to respect the choices that customers make.”

However, “a lot of our customers still want the convenience of a branch and need face-to-face assistance, particularly elderly clients.”

The Heritage Bank headquarters is based in Toowoomba in South Queensland, and the CEO ‘understands’ regional banking.

“There is a real viable alternative. You can choose a shareholder-based bank or a mutual bank,” he said.
