AG reviewing bail for father who allegedly raped daughter over 10 years
The NSW Attorney General is reviewing bail granted to a man who allegedly raped his young daughter for more than a decade.
The man, aged in his 50s, was arrested on September 27 and is accused of sexually abusing his daughter from the age of three.
He was granted bail at Queanbeyan Local Court five days later, despite still not having entered a plea to 39 charges, including sexual intercourse with a person under 10 and aggravated sexual assault.
Magistrate Michael Antrum took into account a job offer the accused had received to become the CEO of a company.
The defence successfully argued he would lose the offer if he remained in custody during what could be lengthy court proceedings.
Magistrate Antrum accepted there were concerns he might endanger the safety of the alleged victim set conditions.
Ray Hadley has contacted NSW Police and the state Attorney General, pleading for an appeal of the bail decision.
NSW Police says, “under current legislation, there is no room for appeal in the local court” but insists “investigators are exploring all options in consultation with the victim”.
Attorney General Mark Speakman admits they are “disturbing allegations” and is reviewing the decision.
The case will return to court in December.
