Barber forced to cut women’s hair after being dragged through discrimination case

A Sydney barber will be forced to cut girls hair after settling a sex discrimination case.

He says he’ll be like a regular mechanic servicing a Ferrari.

A complaint was made against Hunters Hill barber Sam Rahim after he refused to cut a girl’s hair.

When the young girl came in with her mum, Sam told the mother he wasn’t trained to cut her hair.

The mother claims Sam breached the Sex Discrimination Act.

Sam Rahim tells Ben Fordham it came down to the fact that he didn’t want to give a “bad haircut”.

“I can explain it to the person. I’m not experienced, I’m not qualified, I’m more qualified in doing men’s hair.

“But if I’m pushed to do it, I guess I have to do it.”

He says the case has been “stressful” and has left him with legal costs of over $35,000.

“I was just a small business, I’ve got two young kids and I was just trying to make a living but unfortunately I copped it.

“I hope no one else cops it out there.”
