Kia Picanto: the perfect first car
I’ve been driving Kia’s five-door Picanto hatch, classified as a micro-car in official V-Facts car sales figures –selling alongside the Fiat 500, Holden Spark and Mitsubishi Mirage – the biggest seller in this group and understandably so. What the Kia Picanto offers for the money is amazing. I’m not going to over gloss it but in value terms as an entry model it’s hard to pass. With 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine and as tested in four-speed automatic – $15,690 drive-away with the added bonus this month of $777 worth of free accessories. That buys a five star ANCAP safety rating, a reversing camera, autonomous emergency braking, rear parking sensors and cruise control with a speed limiter. Add electronic stability control, six airbags plus a 7-year/unlimited kilometre warranty and its extraordinary value. I drove it hard all week and it returned 7.7L/100km – its four-speed automatic would be better with six speeds but this aside the Kia Picanto is a sweet driver. As a first car hard to pass.
