Ben Fordham revealed on Friday over 1,700 families with disabled children are facing an impossible decision due to a funding gap.

Parents with disabled children in out-of-home care have been told for their funding to continue, their children must become wards of the state.

Gavin Devine is the father of 10-year-old Tom, a young boy who requires 24/7 care.

Tom suffers from autism and has a severe brain injury.

When the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) took over last year, the Devines, along with many others, were told they won’t be receiving funding for their son’s care any longer.

Gavin tells Ben Fordham they’ve been in the dark for 18 months.

“Tom deserved a good place to live. He deserves care and we’re stuck. We have nowhere to go.

“We don’t have a case manager, we have no one to call.

“There are plenty of other families in this crisis.”

Ben has laid down the challenge for those in charge to do something.

“Who’s going to stand up and take some responsibility?”
