June 2017: a record sales month
Official V-Facts motor vehicle sales figures for June reflected a best-ever monthly result, up 4.4 per cent on June last year. Sports utility vehicles or SUV’s and light commercials once again carried the can – SUV’s up 11.7 per cent, light commercials up by 12.2 per cent. The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries noted the highly competitive nature of the market, low interest rates and the Government’s instant asset write-off provisions were the likely contributors to the record June result. Interestingly, our two top selling vehicles were utes – the Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger. Sales leader, Toyota commanded 18.3 per cent of the market, nearly twice as much as next-best Mazda on 9.3 and Hyundai on 9.1. Medium sized SUV’s represented the most significant growth in June – Hyundai’s Tucson taking the best-selling tag from Mazda’s CX-5 for the first time. Best medium-sized SUV over $60,000 was Land Rover’s Discovery Sport followed by BMW’s X3. I’m David Berthon
