Architect Michael Arad had only recently moved to New York City when he watched the world’s worst terror attack unfold.

He watched from his apartment as one of the hijacked planes flew directly into the South Tower of the World Trade Centre. At the time, Michael did not realise he would end up designing the 9/11 Memorial Plaza.

The eight-acre plot today recognises the lives lost, and the everyday heroes made, on that awful day.
